Nasal CPAP masks are the most popular type of CPAP mask because of their shape and machine compatibility. The Nasal CPAP mask is made of either gel, silicone or cloth and has a triangular shape. The triangular shape is ideal for patients who breathe through their nose at night because it covers the nose completely from the bridge to the upper lip which allows air to flow from your nasal CPAP machine into your nose. Nasal CPAP masks are secured by four-point headgear. In addition, some patients opt for a nasal mask along with a chinstrap which supports keeping their mouth closed and offers a less invasive alternative to a full face mask.
All Nasal CPAP masks are connected to their CPAP machine by a flexible hose. The most common hose length is 6ft; however another option is the 8ft. hose. Nasal CPAP masks are compatible with all CPAP, APAP, BIPAP machines.
When choosing your Nasal CPAP mask, the best fit is when the nasal cushion surrounds the nose comfortably, seals completely and doesn’t leave any red marks or cause soreness.
Manufacturers recommend replacing the nasal cushion every three months. Helpful signs of deterioration are when the cushion loses its shape or you feel air leakage.
Manufacturers also recommend replacing the entire mask every six months. Visual signs that also help remind you that it is time to replace your mask are if the mask has a tear, has lost its shape, the headgear is stretched out or air is leaking out.
The care and cleaning of your mask is also very important. We suggest washing it daily with warm, gentle, soapy water and then allowing it to air dry. We also offer CPAP Concentrated Cleaner, CPAP Mask Cleaner Spray or CPAP Mask Wipes for convenient care and cleaning of your CPAP Nasal mask.
